Something important we should all be honest enough to recognize…

Liberals and progressives all support waiting periods for gun purchases, but they oppose waiting periods for abortions. The overwhelming majority of gun purchases do not result in innocent and defenseless people being killed…but the sole purpose of an abortion is to make sure an innocent and defenseless person is killed.

Federal lawsuit filed against Mr. OOOObama…

Mr. OOOObamaA federal lawsuit has been filed against executive actions on guns by Barack Obama, by the conservative Freedom Watch, according to The Hill.

The news came as the annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show opened in Las Vegas, where business is brisk, thanks largely to Obama’s anti-gun policies. Firearms retailers crowding the aisles of this huge industry show said lots of new customers have been buying guns in recent weeks, and no end appears in sight.

In a related development, a federal judge has rejected the Justice Department’s argument that information related to the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious enjoys “executive privilege” protection from Congress. It is a step in the right direction, although the Justice Department apparently can withhold some documents being sought by congressional investigators.

Rep. Darrell Issa, who chaired congressional hearings on Fast and Furious, issued a statement:

“The ruling…by the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. is an acknowledgement that this Administration was wrong to withhold information related to Operation Fast and Furious, which necessitated holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. The House of Representatives has an obligation to the public and the victims of a reckless Department of Justice operation to continue this push for the full truth.

“For over three years, the Obama Administration has refused to provide documents to Congressional investigators related to the misguided and deadly Operation Fast and Furious gun-walking program. (The) ruling is a step toward accountability for this Administration and is a judicial rebuke of the President’s unwillingness to be forthcoming to the America people. This decision underscores the inappropriateness of President Obama’s politically motivated assertion of Executive Privilege. Those responsible have gone to great lengths to obstruct the truth and to cover up the motives, facts, and circumstances surrounding why they lied to Congress about a program that put weapons in the hands of drug cartels.”

By no small coincidence, Fox News confirmed that one of the .50-caliber rifles that was part of the Fast and Furious investigation was recovered by Mexican authorities when they arrested drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Jan. 8.

Meanwhile, during Tuesday’s annual “State of the Industry” banquet, Steve Sanetti, president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, issued a call to action as the 2016 election campaigns shift into high gear. The choices seem obvious; change course by changing parties in control of the White House, or face an administration controlled by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Sanetti told the audience to “beware of politicians who say ‘I support the Second Amendment, but…’” It is critical, he explained, for the industry to fight back, because gun control advocates have declared war, but he predicted that ultimately “we will prevail.”

NEWS FLASH: Shocking new study shows criminals do not obtain guns legally. (Is this something we really didn’t know?)

Second News Flash:  GUN CONTROL LAWS WILL NEVER CONTROL GUNS

Anyone with even the faintest interest in the state of American gun control already knows that laws restricting firearms purchases are useless when it comes to preventing gun violence. But, as usual, it takes liberals a little longer to come around to a common sense understanding of any given subject. More often than not, they never get there at all. Still, studies like this one might help sway the undecided.

According to a new study conducted by the University of Chicago Crime Lab, criminals don’t get their guns from mainstream shops. The researchers interviewed 100 inmates at the Cook County Jail, asking them where they bought the firearms they used in their crimes. Only two out of those 100 said they purchased their firearms legally. The other 98? Were they taking advantage of some internet loophole? Were they exploiting the loose regulations on gun show sales?

Nope. 70 percent of those surveyed reported getting their guns from family members, other gangsters, and through other street connections. In other words, they acquired their guns through avenues that no gun control law will ever close to them. Sure, there have been attempts to crack down on family transfers, but how many Chicago gang members are going to be dissuaded by such a law? How many violent criminals of any stripe would be discouraged by that kind of gun control? Two out of 100? If you’re lucky.

One can imagine that this study is not going to find its way into the next round of propaganda from Moms Demand Action. These anti-gun groups have a remarkable penchant for ignoring studies that don’t conform to their agenda. They are also experts at twisting the numbers to suit their own purposes. Since most of their followers are Americans who don’t have the foggiest idea what’s really going on, they don’t have to try very hard. When everyone on your Facebook page is already convinced that GUNS ARE BAD, stoking the flames of outrage takes little effort.

Here’s what’s really sad about all this. Yes, it’s obviously a concern for anyone who supports the 2nd Amendment. Yes, it’s troubling for law-abiding gun owners who just want the government to stay out of their lives. But at the same time, it’s a colossal waste of time and money. We are pouring millions of dollars into the “gun control” war. That money could instead go to law enforcement departments and community development efforts that could make a real difference. It could go to strengthening the country’s mental health screening processes.

Instead, it’s going into an effort to create laws that are not only ineffective but completely irrelevant. Of course, if we ever actually managed to “cure” gun violence, a whole lot of liberals would be out of a job. We can’t have that, now can we?
