Mr. Obama does not play well with others, particularly when it comes to deciding who will control his legacy piece of legislation, the Affordable Care Act.
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed by a 250-160 vote a bill to lower the Obamacare tax-slash-fine to zero dollars for people who don’t comply with the individual mandate to participate.
Today, the White House issued a statement saying that if the bill winds up on Obama’s desk, he will veto it. He might actually get a chance to do it, too. Given the large margin of the vote and bipartisan support for the bill, it’s conceivable that mob boss Harry Reid might allow a vote in the Senate.
Within hours of saying Obama would veto the House bill, which was passed legally in a constitutionally prescribed vote, the Obama Administration announced another illegal, unconstitutional rewriting of the Obamacare law.
This one will allow the millions of voters with health policies that were set to be cancelled just before this year’s midterm elections to keep those policies until October 2017, after Obama’s out of office finally.
Let’s see … if it frees people from being bullied, but then into forking over their cash to the Administration, then veto it. If it would help the Democrats buy more votes and not actually cost anything, just change it.
Cynical double standard much?
It’s not surprising that Obamacare, passed under cover of darkness during Christmas when it was still unwritten, would be the subject of endless revisions by the Administration. Since they passed it, they keep finding out what’s in it, and the last thing they want is for voters to realize what a fraud and disaster has been fobbed off on them — at least until Obama is safely clear of the White House.
The bad but totally expected news about Obamacare keeps rolling in. One of the latest studies found — surprise, surprise — that only one in 10 of eligible uninsured people has signed up, which means the core audience that provided the central rationale behind the ACA — the nation’s uninsured — either aren’t being reached or, more likely, aren’t interested in overpriced government insurance.
Meanwhile, the reality of the high costs of Obamacare to business has settled in with a lot of people who were starry eyed about free health care when the monstrosity was passed.
Not only have many businesses been forced to lay off workers or cut back hours, but restaurants around the country have begun implementing surcharges to customers’ bills to help cover Obamacare costs. Even though the small business mandate has been delayed until 2015, after the 2014 elections, restaurants still face start-up costs to comply with the increasingly unaffordable care act.
Obamacare is catastrophe enough on its own for this country, but President Obama’s flagrant and frequent breaking of the law in order to change it to gain momentary political advantage has brought America to a constitutional crisis that even liberals who still back Obama are recognizing.
The liberal scholar Jonathan Turley noted in testimony before Congress that “I believe we are now at a constitutional tipping point in our system. It’s a dangerous point for our system to be [at]. And, I believe that your response has to begin before this president leaves office.”
This president has been the most divisive executive ever to hold the Oval Office, and he has gouged huge rifts between all classes of Americans. It would be ironic if the thing that finally reunites America would be the fight against Obama and his policies.
