“The myth of the holocaust is something that America invented.”
That was said by Fathi Shihab-Eddim, a senior member of Mohammed Morsi’s Egyptian government, as reported yesterday by Fox News.
According to FoxNews, Shihab-Eddim is responsible for appointing the editors of all state-run Egyptian newspapers. (That is precisely like asking the inmates to run the asylum, as the saying goes. Perfect example. Would you keep buying your local newspaper if its editor made such a statement?)
The Egyptian official was further quoted as saying that “US intelligence agencies in cooperation with counterparts in allied nations during World War II created it (the Holocaust) to destroy the image of their opponents in Germany, and to justify war and massive destruction against military and civilian facilities of the Axis powers, and especially to hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the atomic bomb.”
FoxNews said that Israeli experts had expressed concern at the harsh statements. Efraim Zuroff, Israel Director of the Jerusalem-based Simon Weisenthal Center told FoxNews.com the remarks show a dangerous, but common, mindset.
How do you deal in good faith with government officials who are willing to go on record with statements denying an earth-shattering event like the holocaust? How do you attempt negotiations with them? How can you accept as truth anything they say following such a stupid remark? How can anyone deny such a momentous event when its survivors are still alive? And when the evidence for the event is not just existent, but overwhelming?
We have heard the president of Iran make this absurd claim in past years, and now the Morsi Muslim Brotherhood government says the same thing. Statements like this in almost any rational society would qualify the speaker for a one-way trip to a psychiatric hospital, and the sooner, the better. Yet we have people running entire governments who seem to make such statements without a second thought!
How can the US deal in good faith with such people? The answer is, it cannot. No country can. You might as well try to have a conversation with a rock…dumber than which these people have to be.
And the US is sending our new F-16 fighter jets to Egypt as part of our foreign aid program? Unbelievable.
If you have not contacted your elected officials lately, or written a letter to the White House, you now have the best possible reason to do both.
